Industrial placements at Metrion:
At Metrion, we put an emphasis on providing a supportive work environment that encourages
and empowers our staff to develop as scientists and to grow professionally. Our 12 month
industrial placement offers the opportunity to gain experience in a diverse set of industryleading ion channel assays across a range of therapeutic indications.

As part of our enthusiastic and inclusive laboratory team based at our Granta Park
headquarters (Cambridge, UK), you will contribute to our drug discovery services, providing
meaningful, high-quality data on novel compounds to clients across the globe.
You will be supported by expert scientists to gain first-hand practical experience in manual
patch clamp electrophysiology, state-of-the-art automated platforms for drug screening,
mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques. Moreover, through your work with
us, you will have the opportunity to build your skills in data analysis, scientific presentations, and
interpretation of the published literature.

Our placements include the opportunity to drive your own research project and to build your
scientific network, providing a springboard for your future research career.

Qualification, Skills & Experience required:

• Applicants should be high achieving (minimum grade 2.1) undertaking an
  undergraduate or integrated masters degree within a biological discipline that
  includes the opportunity to spend one year in industry from summer 2024
• Strong practical lab-based skills with strong attention to detail
• Self-motivated and driven to learn, with a keen interest in ion channel pharmacology
• Excellent organisational and planning skills
• Strong teamworking, interpersonal and communication skills
• An ability to demonstrate qualities aligned with Metrion values and expectations
  Desirable:
• Experience of working in teams
• Previous experience working in a laboratory environment
• Demonstrable experience with data handling (e.g. Microsoft Excel)
