Research associate scientist at Metrion:
Metrion is looking to recruit a research associate scientist on a permanent full-time (37.5 hours
per week) contract basis to be part of our enthusiastic lab team. The role will be based at our
Granta Park headquarters (Cambridge, UK) and the successful candidate will work closely
within our team of scientists and researchers to conduct experiments, analyse data, and
contribute to delivering success to our clients. You will be supported by expert scientists to
gain first-hand practical experience of in vitro assays. Moreover, through your work with us,
you will have the opportunity to build your skills in assay development, data analysis and
scientific presentations.

Duties to include the following:

  • Perform lab-bench based experiments related to ion channel drug discovery
    o As instructed by or approved by senior lab members, execute a range of in
    vitro assays using established protocols including; fluorescence plate based
    assays, biochemical assays and automated electrophysiology assays
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and
    milestones
  • Analyse experimental data, interpret results and contribute to scientific presentations
    and reports
  • Exercise initiative and judgment to resolve problems with a range of established
    procedures, effectively seeking advice on more complex issues
  • Maintain concise, accurate and comprehensive written records
  • Perform general laboratory administrative tasks as requested (e.g. placing and
    receipt of ordering, reagent preparation, equipment maintenance tasks etc)
  • Gain a basic understanding of ion channel biology through in house training and
    reading of scientific literature relevant to daily activities
  • An ability to demonstrate qualities aligned with Metrion values and expectations
  • Essential Skills/ Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Hands-on experience in either cell culture, electrophysiology, and other relevant
    plate-based laboratory techniques
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced research environment
  • Proactive attitude and positive approach to help the team succeed
  • An ability to demonstrate qualities aligned with Metrion values and expectations
    Desirable Skills:
  • Experience working in an industrial setting
